About The Movement
Who We Are
Build Highlands Back Better is a statewide movement of:
- Highlands students, alumni, and staff
- Immigrant and refugee advocates
- Reentry and second-chance providers
- Faith leaders and educators
- Public safety officials
- Community-based organizations and everyday Californians

What’s At Stake
For over a decade, Highlands has served 10,000+ second-chance learners each year — immigrants, refugees, returning citizens, working parents.
If the school closes:

These Californians lose access to high school diploma programs and job training

Families lose economic mobility

Communities lose a proven tool to reduce recidivism and support integration
What We’re Advocating For
Highlands acknowledges past failures — and is taking action.
We support:
With true reform and transparent leadership, we believe Highlands can and should continue to live out its mission of serving the underserved.
